“In The Shadow of the Bluestones - Yng Nghysgod Y Cerrig Gleision”

CD-eBook Cover - In the Shadow of the Bluestones

After moving to the beautiful but isolated Preseli Mountains of North Pembrokeshire in 1999 to enjoy the splendid peace and tranquility of the area, it became apparent that integration with the local communities would not be easy. I suppose it’s the old story, unless you are local or have local ties, you need to prove as an incomer that you will bring or do something worthwhile for the community, which demonstrates to your neighbours that you have ‘worth’.

My only ‘worth’ was having the ability as a photographer to record local people and events in a way that would enable future generations of Welsh children to appreciate their heritage. I hope I’ve achieved that to some degree with the publication of “Yng Nghysgod Y Cerrig Gleision - In the Shadow of the Bluestones”

The book was eventually published in 2003 as a Limited Edition A3 Fine Art Publication of only 20 copies.

Containing over 120 photographs and text in Welsh and English, 17 copies were given free to local Schools and Libraries, one copy was purchased by the National Library of Wales and one Copy is in the Archives of the V&A, London. I have kept the remaining copy.

The book is now available in it’s original layout as an eBook on CD at £9.95 per copy including P&P in the UK

A small selection of images from the book is included below, which I hope will give you a flavour of the variety of topics covered.

Sid Jenkins, Hill Farmer
Pembrokeshire Coast

A big attraction in Pembrokeshire is its Coastal Path which runs through the National Park. Our coastline is the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ which, as a photographer, I never tire of exploring.

Sid Jenkins, Hill Farmer who has lived in the Shadow of the Bluestones all his life, tending sheep, cattle and horses. Voel Dregarn in the background offers a gentle climb to a stunning viewpoint over the Pembrokeshire coast and Cardigan Bay.

Carnabwth - Celebrating the Rebecca Riots of 1839

Culture and Heritage count for a lot in an area as deprived as this in financial terms. The scene above was the finale of a play, ‘Carnabwth’ staged on the village green at Maenclochog, to celebrate the ‘Rebecca Riots’ of 1839, where men dressed as women to avoid recognition whilst burning down Toll Gates in the vicinity.
